FLEAS

These guys ARE NOT cartoon superheroes.

How Did My Flea Infestation Start?

Flea infestations can start in a myriad of ways, but household pets are usually the culprit. When your furry friend is playing outside, they can pick up fleas and carry them indoors where they will soon spread and start an infestation. Some flea infestations have been traced back to wild animals like rodents and raccoons living in a home’s crawl space, but this is not usually the case.

Scissortail Pest Control takes a comprehensive approach to flea control. We eliminate any fleas that are currently infesting your home and then take a long-term approach to making sure they stay gone for good.

Tips on Preventing Flea Infestations:

  • Wash all your bedding regularly, including your pets’ bedding.

  • Groom your pets regularly. You can either do this at home or take them to a professional.

  • Talk to your vet about preventative tick and flea treatments for your pets.

  • To prevent fleas from returning, vacuum your entire home regularly. Then immediately empty or throw out the vacuum bag in an exterior garbage can.

You Might Have Fleas If:

  • You notice that your pets are itching more than usual.

  • You start to find red bites on your legs and feet that itch.

  • You see flea feces – also called “flea dirt” – around your house. Flea dirt looks like coarse black pepper.

  • You see small, reddish-brown bugs that jump when approached.

Facts about Fleas:

  • Fleas need to feed on animal or human blood to survive.

  • Fleas are most attracted to dogs, rodents, cats, and rabbits.

  • Flea bites and feces can transmit harmful diseases like flea-borne typhus, plague, bartonellosis (cat scratch disease), flea tapeworm, and tungiasis.

  • Flea bites that aren’t kept clean can lead to a bacterial infection.
